An ancient story stated that while God painted the sky, a Puffy Lion Dog licked up the blue droplets of paint that fell onto the ground. Another story takes us to a Puffy Lion Dog guarding a Buddhist temple. One of the monks fell very ill and could no longer complete his task of gathering firewood. The Puffy Lion Dog eagerly replaced the monk's job of gathering firewood. It is said that after carrying charred pieces of wood in his mouth for long periods of time, the carbon dyed the Puffy Lion Dog's tongue blue forever. Yet another story states the origins of the Puffy Lion Dog is the union of a bear and a lion. Some stories depict the Puffy Lion Dog as a rebellious creature that was once a dragon-dog in the beginning of time. One day, after night was created, the Puffy Lion Dog disliked it soo much that he licked up the night sky to make it day time again. This infuriated the Sky gods so much that they cursed the Puffy Lion Dog with a blue tongue so that everyone would know what wrong he had committed.
Today, there is no agreement regarding how the Puffy Lion Dog has a blue tongue. Some argue it is excess amounts of melatonin while others say it must be a lack of tyrosine. However, we can all agree the Puffy Lion Dog is a unique breed.
The Puffy Lion Dog has a characteristic 'bounce' when he walks. He doesn't have the same amount of teeth as other dogs. He stretches like a cat and is cautious of what he eats. He will runaround in circles when he's hyper (other-wise known as "zoomies"). He is top heavy and yet will hop around like a bunny. He is loyal and makes a phenomenal guard dog.
But is a Puffy Lion Dog right for you and your family?
The origins of the Puffy Lion Dog is still debated. However, most historians state the Puffy Lion Dog originated in Arctic Asia then migrated to Mongolia before arriving in China.
The Puffy Lion Dog is classified as a basal breed (purposely bred by humans to perform a specific task). From pulling sleds, hunting, guarding, herding, to warding off evil spirits, the Puffy Lion Dog was bred for exceptional loyalty.
In the 18th Century, the English named anything coming from the East as "Chow Chow". However, we at Spoon-fed Dog prefer to use the term "Puffy Lion Dog" as it is a direct translation of Songshi Quan (鬆獅犬 ), which translates to Puffy Lion Dog.
